Cryolipolysis, commonly called “fat Freezing”, uses cold temperature to break down fat cells. The fat cells are particularly susceptible to the effects of cold, unlike other types of cells. While the fat cells freeze, the skin and other structures are spared from injury.
Sometimes, despite diet and exercise, stubborn fat deposits may just not budge. If you feel plagued by flab and fat around your tummy and waistline, CoolTech® may be the answer to get rid of unwanted love handles, muffin tops, saddle bags and floppy belly flab. The Cooltech® method is an outpatient treatment without requiring anaesthesia or pain medications, so there doesn’t have to be any down or recovery time. CoolTech® may be your desired safe and effective fat-removal process that doesn’t damage any tissue.
With CoolTech®, fat cells under the skin can be cooled in a particular manner until they are frozen. Once solidified, the fat cells can die. They can be naturally eliminated over a period of time by your body, with no damage to any surrounding areas.
Your therapist will identify the fatty area to be treated and cover it with a cool gel pad to protect the skin. A large cup-like applicator will then be applied over the site. A vacuum is applied, which ultimately sucks in the fat roll that will be treated.
A firm pulling sensation is felt during this action; similar to applying a vacuum seal, a mild cold may also be felt. In the first ten minutes, the temperature in the cup will be lowered gradually to -8 degrees, freezing the fat cells in the fat roll.
The cup applicator remains in contact for one hour; you can listen to music, relax, read, use a computer, or watch a movie. At the same time, the device gently cools your treatment area.
After an hour, the cup applicator is removed. There may be a slight burning sensation in the region as the temperature in that area reverts to normal. You will notice that the site is deformed and possibly bruised. This is then massaged flat into a more normal appearance. Redness will settle in the next few minutes to hours afterwards. Any localized bruising usually clears within a few weeks. There may be a temporary dulling of sensation or numbness in the treated area lasting up to eight weeks.
Cooling causes an inflammatory response in the fat cells (called Panniculitis) within the treated area. This damages the fat cells by rupturing them. The contents are naturally flushed away from your body via its mechanisms in the next two months. This leads to a slow reduction of the thickness of the fat layer, which decreases the bulges within two to four months. There is also no suggestion that the procedure has detrimental effects on liver enzymes or blood fats (such as cholesterol) levels. If one does not maintain your lifestyle, the weight will be gained by the remaining fat cells.
Treatable Areas:
In the correctly selected patient, a single treatment of fat cooling results in roughly a 20% decrease in the volume of the treated area. After the first treatment, further treatments can be scheduled to enhance results.
Many patients, however, find that one treatment is sufficient. We will discuss this with you and design a plan that suits you best.
Since the inflammatory process is not immediate, it will take 2-3 months to see the full effect of the fat reduction. However, from about 4 weeks, you will see a noticeable improvement which will only be fully completed after 3 months.
A 20% reduction in the treated area is generally noticed at each treatment session. In a thin person with a slight fat bulge, a single treatment may be all that is required.
However, 2 or even 3 treatments may be necessary for a fatter patient to achieve the desired result. Some protocols are performed 2 monthly, but this may vary from patient to patient. A follow-up visit is arranged after 4 weeks to assess progress and further treatments.
The results of fat cooling are not as fast or quickly noticeable as invasive operations such as liposuction. With any surgical procedure, there are more possible risks and side effects. Also more downtime and recovery time with the surgical procedures. So if you do not want less risk and downtime but are prepared to accept a less spectacular result. Then fat freezing may be your preferred option
