Arm Lift

Step 1 – Anaesthesia

This operation is generally performed under General anaesthesia. In patients with lesser amounts of tissue to be removed, sedation with administering local analgesia may be an option. Dr Ching will recommend the best option to you.

Step 2 – The incision

The cut length and excision pattern during arm lift surgery depend on the amount and site of extra skin to remove.

The cuts are generally placed on the inside of the arm to make them less visible. Extra fat may be directly excised or treated with liposuction. The incision may stretch from the armpit (axilla) to just above the elbow.

Depending on your specific needs, incisions may be shorter. The residual soft tissue is reshaped and tightened with internal sutures. The skin is then redraped over the new contour of your arm.

Step 3 – Closing the incisions

Your incision sites will be closed with absorbable sutures that can take up to 2 months to dissolve completely.

Step 4 – See the results

The smoother, firmer contours that result from Brachioplasty are apparent almost immediately following your procedure. However, there will likely be swelling and bruising.

During your recovery from arm lift surgery, bandages and opsite dressings will be applied to your incisions. Your arms will be wrapped in a compression garment to minimize swelling after surgery.

A drain may be on each side to drain any excess blood or fluid.

Dr Ching will instruct you on surgical site and drain care, what medication to apply topically or take orally to aid healing, specific concerns to look for, and when to follow up with Dr Ching.

The tighter contours following arm lift surgery are noticeable immediately after your operation. Initial results may be hidden by swelling and bruising, and a scar will remain where the incision was made.

Though decent results are expected from your operation, there is no guarantee. In some situations, achieving optimal results with a single surgical procedure may not be possible, and revisional surgery may be necessary.

Arm lift surgery results will be long-lasting, provided that you maintain your weight and general fitness. As your body ages, it is natural to lose some firmness, but most of your improvement should be relatively permanent.

Following Dr Ching’s instructions are essential to the success of your surgery.

The surgical incisions mustn’t be subjected to excessive force, swelling, abrasion or motion during healing. Dr Ching will give you specific instructions on how to care for your arms.
