Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of eyelids by removing excess skin from the eyelids. Your eyes are such a prominent feature of your face and body that they can often be an area that people worry about in terms of the effects of ageing. Nature may be unkind to your eyes, and it can often be the contours of your eyes that show the first signs of ageing. When it comes to eyelids, one of the earlier signs of the ageing process can be sagging of the eyebrows, with a fullness of skin of the upper eyelid.
One of the best-known cosmetic procedures that can alleviate these symptoms is Blepharoplasty. The procedure consists of the removal of the excess eyelid skin, as well as the removal of bags under the eyes. Results following surgery can generally be natural-looking, visually satisfying and long-lasting. Considering eyelid surgery? Contact us now.
There is usually little pain associated with eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty surgery normally lasts up to an hour and is performed under general anaesthesia. On the upper eyelid, the incision is made along the normal folds of the lid, and then the excess skin is removed. The amount of skin to be removed from the eyelid is measured by your Dr Ching during prior consultations. On the lower lid, the incision is just under the eyelashes. Protruding fat is removed as necessary, and the overall amount of skin removed is usually minimal. The incision is then closed with fine sutures. During the recovery process, scars on the eyelids usually heal excellently and can become hidden. Complete healing after surgery may take 4 to 6 months. After surgery, your Dr Ching may recommend that you apply cold compresses to your eyelids for the first few hours after the operation. This can help to increase comfort, reduce swelling and limit bruising, which may help to shorten your recovery period and encourage better healing on a cellular level.
